One aspect of grace is God’s unmerited gift of the power to do what he calls us to do.
“I am always going into the far country, and always returning home as a prodigal, always saying Father, forgive me, and thou art always bringing forth the best robe.”
“If you are renewed by grace, and were to meet your old self, I am sure you would be very anxious to get out of his company.”
(Charles Haddon Spurgeon)
“The will of God will never lead you where the grace of God cannot keep you.”
“The law tells me how crooked I am. Grace comes along and straightens me out.”
(Dwight L. Moody)
“God creates out of nothing. Wonderful, you say. Yes, to be sure, but He does what is still more wonderful: He makes saints out of sinners.”
“For grace is given not because we have done good works, but in order that we may be able to do them.”
There’s a wideness in God’s mercy
Like the wideness of the sea;
There’s a kindness in His justice
Which is more than liberty.
There is welcome for the sinner
And more graces for the good;
There is mercy with the Savior;
There is healing in His blood.
For the love of God is broader
Than the measure of man’s mind;
And the heart of the Eternal
Is most wonderfully kind.
If our love were but more simple
We should take Him at His word,
And our lives would be all sunshine
In the sweetness of our Lord.
“When we look back on our life from the perspective of eternity, we are going to see that the power of Satan was so great, that the weakness of our flesh was feeble, and that the hostility of the world was so strong, that every day of our lives—if God had not intervened—we would never have made it through a day.”
He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater;
He sendeth more strength when the labours increase.
To added afflictions, He addeth his mercy;
To multiplied trials, His multiplied peace.
His love has no limit; His grace has no measure;
His pow’r has no boundary known unto men.
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus,
He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again!
(Annie Johnson Flint)
