“Keep one thing forever in view—the truth; and if you do this, though it may seem to lead you away from the opinion of men, it will assuredly conduct you to the throne of God.”
Without truth the only option is tyranny. In that type of world, right becomes determined by might.
One aspect of grace is God’s unmerited gift of the power to do what he calls us to do.
When Christians don’t think, “Christianity is emasculated of its intellectual relevance. It remains a vehicle of spirituality and moral guidance at the individual level perhaps; at the communal level it is little more than an expression of sentimentalized togetherness.” (Harry Blamires)
“Jesus of Nazareth is God; He who was conceived in the womb of the virgin and born in Bethlehem’s manger is now, and always was, God over all, blessed forever. There is no gospel if he be not God. It is no news to me to tell me that a great prophet is born. There have been great prophets before; but the world has never been redeemed from evil by mere testimony to the truth, and never will be.
Tell me that God is born, that God Himself has espoused our nature, and taken it into union with Himself, then the bells of my heart ring merry peals, for now may I come to God since God has come to me.”
(Charles Haddon Spurgeon)
“When the Spirit has come to reside in someone, that person cannot stop praying; for the Spirit prays without ceasing in him. No matter if he is asleep or awake, prayer is going on in his heart all the time….The slightest stirring of his heart is like a voice which sings in silence and in secret to the Invisible.”
(Isaac the Syrian)
“Ignorance is the Mother not of Devotion but of Heresy.”
